picking a good webhost

I had a long icq chat with a long time net buddy of mine. I have known this guy from the early days of the internet. This was when bandwith was way more expensive and most the people buying web hosting were adult sites. Today its a different story and everyone pretty much has a website. You have people who aren’t even internet savy with myspace accounts. The thing is with web hosting tutorials or companies its hard to really pick a good company. Web hosting happens to be probably the most competitive business on the internet. This results in way too many fly by night hosting businesses that start on a shoe string offering no support. Its best to research around and if you have a friend with hosting ask them for a recommendation. If your just starting off your probably good with shared hosting. This is the most affordable kind and should work just fine. If you start getting huge traffic maybe 100k visitors a day then a dedicated server would probably be good. I have gotten 10,000 visits a day with shared hosting and it seemed to work ok with out any problems.

I happen to be reading a web host blog and found out a little secret most host do. They offer unlimited everything and try and under cut each other. The way they do this is they put in there terms of service that if you use too many resources or cpu they cancel you. The companies know most will never put strain on the servers so they offer unlimited hosting or bandwith. The few they do get on a server they tell them they need to upgrade or they have to remove them. I pretty much knew of this little secret but it was in the back of my head.
