care home advice
My grandmother has lived with my family for over twenty years. She moved in with my father, mother, sister , brother and I back in 1983. This was the year my grandfather had a heart attack and passed away. My grandmother asked to move in with my dad and us. My sister was born one year later in 1984. My grandmother is I think 96 years old now. She got to the point were she couldn’t use her stroller to get around. At first we were having nurses come into the home to help out with things such as her needing assistance going to the bathroom or bathing her. She started getting bed sores and sleeping most the day. After checking her into the hospital for potential food poison she was put on hospice. They recommended she go to a nursing home. So my family didn’t really want to at first but decided it is the best option for her at this stage in her life. She has been in the care home for about four months or six months. I’m not sure. The doctors only gave her 6 months to live and she has surpassed that. They said she has improved. So much that they have taken her off hospice. I think it has to do with the interaction she gets throughout the day with the nurses.
